Aliasing occurs when the resolution of an image is too low. If it is a straight line for example, the edges will be jagged and make the image look distorted. Anti-aliasing is a technique which chooses the average colours in a certain area and blends them, making the line not look as harsh. The new updated version of Paint actually has an automatic anti aliasing system. Below are two lines I drew in the software. The top line (1) is jagged and an example of aliasing. The line below (2) is what happened when I released the mouse. The lines are smoothed out.
